Bands at Hogue Barmichaels
Another great show. Music photography is so fun because anything goes and everyone is drunk happy and in a good mood. This show was at Hogue Barmichaels in Newport Beach. I met with Silence Betrayed in Oceanside and we all drove up together. I have a love hate relationship with GPS. On one side you never get lost but on the other side it never takes toll roads into account and it doesn’t work well in some rural areas. I guess the satellites just don’t fly over empty land. After a bit of confusion we finally arrived at Hogue Barmichaels. I didn’t know what to expect when we got there. It was an all ages show which is more awkward than I remember. Here I am having a few beers in a dark bar and there are children there not old enough to drive. With their parents.
When we walked in though it was totally different. A band was already on stage and they were killin it. As I turn the corner not one of the 5 band members is out of high school. Unfortunately I did not have time to setup my camera in time to snap some shots of them but the rest of the night made up for it. Sunday Girl played first. The smoke began to pour out and it was on. I got my lights setup, broke out my new lens (24mm-105mm) and started shooting. Oh how sweet it is. I have been to a few of their shows over the last year (wow has it been that long already?) and it’s awesome every time. Next up was Abita. This was my first time hearing them. Definitely a must see. Check them out on Myspace. My good friends Silence Betrayed followed. Good show. Damn good show. Finally Deliverance closed the night. This is the first time I had heard Deliverance. Apparently they just changed their name to No TV which in my opinion is a name that needs some work. But who knows, maybe they have a new face that will explain that title. I assume that they changed their name because there is a christian “metal” band with the same name. That’s like having a non-alcoholic beer or a diet coke at Jack-in-the-Box. It’s counter intuitive on so many levels. So maybe that’s why they changed their name. Anyways name or not, Deliverance NO TV rocked it. But don’t take my word for it. Check them out for yourself.
