Kate’s Pregnancy Shoot

Friday, April 3rd, 2009 @ 7:58 am | Photography Assignment, portrait

I recently did a photo shoot with Kate. She was in her third trimester and wanted a few photos to document this exciting time. We went out to Torrey Pines Beach a couple weeks ago to shoot. I wanted to do a late afternoon shoot but every day I had to deal with the tide. I chose that Tuesday (coincidentally it was my birthday too) because it was closest to the low tide. I just learned that there are 2 high tides and low tides throughout the day. Go figure. I made poor Kate stand out on a rock with the waves crashing at her feet. My assistant, Michelle, was such a dear. She stood in the cold water fighting the pounding waves holding a Q-Flash with an umbrella up close. It gave me some beautiful lighting to fill in the shadows cast by the sun. Yay contrast. Here are a few shots from the day.
