It’s amazing how much I rely on the internet. I moved out to Vista recently and thought nothing of it. Having moved many times in the past I know the process pretty well. Pack up half your stuff then go digging through boxes before I actually move then pack some more. No matter how much stuff you think you have there is always more and the process takes all day. I like the process though because I get to throw things away and find things I had thought were lost in time, or lose things that were not previously lost in time. I always expect to be away from my computer (which I already rely on heavily for business) for 2 days. One of moving and the following nightmare of a day of unpacking. Well when the time came to setup my computer and go online EVERYTHING went wrong.
The router in the house had a poor signal (don’t buy a wireless b router kids) and the initial signal coming from the power lines to the modem was poor. But naturally that all wasn’t obvious in the beginning. I spent 2 days tinkering with every piece of it running back and forth from room to room resetting things and swapping wires. It was swell. Finally broke down and had Cox come out and “setup” our service again. Turns out all they did was flip a switch on the lines without checking that the wires actually reached the house. There goes another day. So finally Friday after lots of frustration we figured the problem out and here I am online again with all my blogging glory.
Moral of the story, don’t move.
